As an Auxiliarist, you have an opportunity to increase your knowledge of boating safety and acquire special training through advanced classes or by taking correspondence courses from the Coast Guard Institute. Instruction in navigation, meteorology, marine engines, communications, and search and rescue operations enhances the value of you to the Auxiliary while adding to your own boating pleasure.

You will find great personal satisfaction in providing a valuable public service to boaters. The possibility of saving lives - even one human life - is always in your path as an Auxiliarist.

Dedication to boating safety provides you with the atmosphere for getting together to swap boating experiences and participate in exercises, group outings, etc. You'll find a special fellowship among Auxiliarists that's hard to beat. There's time to relax and have fun at Auxiliary outings, rendezvous, cruises and conferences. Auxiliarists make lasting, meaningful friendships.

When you join the Coast Guard Auxiliary, you could find yourself saving lives, protecting the environment from polluters, guarding our shores from terrorists and much more. That’s our job – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. That's life in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. We don't just train. We train and perform

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary was founded by Congress in 1939.  It is composed of unpaid US citizens from age 17 and above who volunteer their time helping  out the United States Coast Guard. The Auxiliary primary missions are teaching boating safety courses, vessel examinations and operations.  The Auxiliary frees up the Coast Guard time so they can perform more important duties and saves taxpayers millions of dollars. The Auxiliarists are extensively trained by both the Coast Guard and the experienced Auxiliarists. Some of our training materials are the same materials that the  Coast Guard uses to teach their cadets. This is a volunteer organization, so we take no  role in military actions or law enforcement. In other words, we do not mount guns on our boat(s) nor write citations.
